When

It is Butterfly Show time again and we have been asked to help-out as informational entertainment in the John Carroll Gallery at the Krohn Conservatory. It is a fun time and allows us to spread information about the art of bonsai and hopefully bring some attention to our society.  The Butterfly Show will run for 14 weeks this year, from March 25 through June 18.  You will have plenty of time slots to volunteer! Some of you have done this in the past.  Many people see us working with our trees and ask lots of questions.

When

Have you ever seen a miniature tree in a pot – known as bonsai – and wanted to learn the skills needed to grow your own?  In this hands-on class we’ll teach you the basics of how bonsai are created, and get you started growing, styling, and caring for your very own tree!

The morning portion of this course we will equip you with a basic understanding of the art of bonsai, its history and philosophy, and information on choosing plants, tools, and products.

When

Prior to COVID disrupting everything, the new talent competition was an annual event hosted at the Krohn Conservatory during the Fall Bonsai Show, and now finally it was back again this year!

Administered by Lifetime Member Don Brown, this year's competition tree was the garden juniper (juniper procumbens 'nana',) and looked to be a challenging tree for the eight new members taking part in the competition.

1st Place: Phil Horney
