John Carroll was one of the major factors for the growth of the Art of Bonsai in Cincinnati. Seeing his first bonsai in an Ikebana display in 1978 was all it took to get him interested in those little trees. He joined the Bonsai Society of Greater Cincinnati, and his interest and involvement grew.
It's the annual BSGC White Elephant Sale! Members will be selling all of their unused or unneeded items to benefit the Society. You'll find everything from pots, tools and supplies, to trees, so come on down and support the Society!
Cash, check and creadi/debit cards accepted!
By popular demand we will be hosting a member tree review during our August meeting. Bring your favorite tree(s) and/or those trees you need a little advice for. We will have stations for each member to set up then we will all make our rounds to see what you have been working on, learn about your process, and offer any constructive thoughts. This is a great opportunity for you to show off and for us to all learn from each other.
The July meeting will feature a demo by well-known bonsai artist Adam Lavigne. For the demo, he will be working on an olive tree, which will be raffled off at the end of the meeting.
Adam resides in Florida and has been practicing bonsai for over 20 years. He has a growing nursery in his backyard where he raises trees from seedlings all the way up to very large trunked specimens.

If you weren't able to make it down for the Waterfront Gardens bonsai show in Louisville this weekend, I took pictures of all of the tree so you could see the quality of specimens on display from both the Gardens and the Louisville Bonsai Society. There were some amazing trees there and it was definitely worth the drive down to see them. The Gardens is also in the process of building a permanent bonsai display so it will be a nice destination if you're in the area.
In this hands-on class we’ll teach you the basics of how bonsai are created, and get you started growing, styling, and caring for your very own tree!
This was a fantastic workshop, with Will showing the attendees the ins and outs of carving. Topics included tool selection, techniques, and styles for carving the wood on a tree. The results were pretty amazing!
Ken Huth visited the BSGS for the March monthly meeting and demonstrated how to create fused trident maple bonsai.
