Multi-Trunk from Single Root

The multi-trunk from a single root styles of bonsai are a group of techniques that involve growing multiple trunks from a single bonsai tree root system. These styles can create a natural and dynamic appearance, resembling a small forest or grove.  The number of trunks may be 2 (sokan), 3 (sankan), 5 (gokan), 7 (nanakan), 9 (kyukan), or more.  The twin-trunk style (sokan) is the only one of these that is considered a separate style.  The other numbers art simply appended to one of the other style categories, for example: "sinuous 7-trunk style" or "ikadabuki gokan."
